From 2007 to 2009 the OMID Foundation, in cooperation with API (Aktionspartner Indien), supported the extension of a school and the purchase of school uniforms, shoes, stockings and school supplies in one of the poorest regions of Central India. For the teachers’ room a computer was provided, and desks and benches for the children to sit on instead on the bare floor. Toilets and washrooms were renovated and improved.
In addition, part of the teachers’salaries were absorbed. During our visit in October 2007 we could see for ourselves that the help provided was desperately needed; it was a delight to see the childrens’ joy.
When the old school building in the town of Jhabua became too small for the steadily growing number of students, a new school complex with boarding school, health center and solar kitchen was built; in July 2009, 240 children were able to move in. At our initiative, an infirmary for the students and surrounding residents was set up in the school building.
We supported this project with EUR 56.311,00.
